A sampling of Kent Police incidents Oct. 10-28:

Oct. 10

Stolen truck recovered: 10:36 a.m., officers recovered a stolen truck. Earlier in the week, this truck had taken off from West Hill officers after coming from the homeless encampment behind Lowe’s, 24050 Pacific Highway S. It is believed this same suspect is also responsible for felony crimes and uses the encampment behind Lowe’s for criminal activities. He has not yet been identified. Officers had an AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) on the scene to try to identify the at-large suspect.

Oct. 12

7-Eleven robbery: 11:25 p.m., an armed robbery took place at 7-Eleven on West Meeker Street. Four suspects armed with an AR pistol robbed the store employee and fled in a car. After obtaining video by officers, it was discovered the suspects used a blue Audi that had been stolen in a Seattle carjacking a few hours earlier. In reviewing the video, officers noticed one of the suspects placed his bare hands on the counter to jump over. An AFIS was called out to recover prints.

Oct. 14

Carjacked Mercedes found: A newer model black Toyota Camry without plates almost struck an officer’s patrol vehicle as it fled from the parking lot of Kently Pointe Apartments, 4724 S. 272nd St. The Toyota was parked next to a Mercedes that was recently carjacked out of Bellevue. This information was provided by Bellevue Police. Bellevue Police responded to recover the car and was advised of the Toyota Camry that was involved in the carjacking.

Oct. 15

Shooting victim: 5:25 p.m., officers were notified of a suspicious circumstance near 132nd Avenue SE and SE 240th Street. The person reported a male subject had fired four to five shots at a black Acura SUV, before fleeing on foot. The Acura fled the scene and was located abandoned at 24 Hour Fitness, 20600 108th Ave. SE. Officers learned the victim had self-transported to the hospital, and was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where the victim underwent and survived surgery. Detectives were contacted. Detectives located the suspect and with the assistance of Valley SWAT, took the suspect into custody.

Oct. 17

Attempted robbery: 9:08 p.m., officers responded to Jack in the Box, 23911 104th Ave. SE, for a robbery. The suspect approached the register and brandished a handgun and demanded money from the register. The register was empty at the time of the robbery, the victim at the register showed the suspect the till was empty, and the suspect fled the area.

Oct. 18

Suspicious vehicle: 7:15 p.m., officers went to a suspicious vehicle at the far end of the Country Estates, 12436 SE 272nd St. They found two occupants passed out inside of a stolen car. Officers quickly improvised when a resident pulled in and flashed their headlights straight into the suspect car, acting quickly by pulling the driver out of the car. After detaining both suspects, they discovered a gun in the waistband of the driver. The suspect was arrested.

Felony warrant arrest: Officers viewed a driver run a stop sign and he initiated a traffic stop. The driver pulled over and remained calm and cooperative during his contact. Once the officer ran the driver through dispatch, he learned of a felony assault warrant out of California, with no bail. Officers were able to get the driver to exit the vehicle where he was handcuffed and advised with minimal force. Upon being placed in handcuffs, the suspect became resistant and somewhat combative, collapsing to the ground and stiffening all his muscles to defeat attempts to get him into a patrol vehicle. The suspect claimed he was “nearly paralyzed” and any contact with anyone would cause him to immediately become paralyzed. Officers called Puget Sound Fire to evaluate, and the team of the officers and fire personnel showed incredible patience and compassion trying to verbally talk the suspect off the ground and onto a stretcher and into an ambulance to get cleared for booking. These efforts ultimately didn’t work so the team of officers and fire personnel had to physically restrain the suspect to get him onto the stretcher and detained in soft restraints. He was eventually transported to the hospital and cleared for booking into the King County jail to await extradition to California. The suspect’s mother arrived on the scene to take possession of the vehicle and commented that her son has struggled with mental health for most of his adult life.

Oct. 19

7-Eleven robbery: 1 a.m., officers responded to an armed robbery at 7-Eleven, 1208 Central Ave. N.. The subjects came in, made their demands, and quickly exited the store with money, tobacco, wine and food. The suspects fled in an unlicensed blue Audi. Officers quickly learned this vehicle was tied to other armed robberies in Tukwila and Auburn that same evening.

Attempted robbery: 3:30 p.m., officers responded to a house in the 11000 block of SE 201st Street about an attempted robbery. In speaking with the victim police learned the suspect yelled at the victim through the window demanding she open the door. The victim refused, the suspect stated he was armed, would force entry, and kill her if she did not. The victim again refused and retreated to her bedroom to call her daughter who viewed the camera footage confirming the events and called 911. The suspect fled without gaining entry and before police arrived.

Oct. 20

Ampm robbery: 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a robbery at ampm at 24014 116th Ave. SE. The victim stated he was getting gas, and while seated in his driver’s seat with the door partially open the suspect approached him, pushed a pistol into his shoulder, and demanded his wallet. The victim complied. The suspect also demanded to go through the center console, then fled the area on foot.

Oct. 21

Felony warrant arrest: 1:26 p.m., officers were conducting an extra patrol at Target, 26301 104th Ave.SE, when they recognized a man with several warrants. The male exited in a truck and was quickly relocated and stopped. The driver was arrested on several warrants. The suspect had several domestic violence convictions, and a firearm was located inside the vehicle. The suspect admitted knowing he was not to possess any firearms. He was booked on the warrants and officers will be filing felony weapons charges.

Oct. 23

Apartment shooting: 8:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to Park Place Apartments, 1406 Maple Lane S., about people shooting guns. Officers on the scene located multiple casings lying in the roadway and parking lot of the apartment complex, along with several vehicles in the parking lot that had damage from being shot. An apartment also sustained damage. Officers spoke to a juvenile victim who claimed to have been targeted by the assailants. The victim stated he and two other friends were sitting in a vehicle at the east end of the parking lot, smoking marijuana. The victim denied he or any of his friends having any firearms or shooting in return. No injuries were reported, and suspects are not identified at this time. Patrol processed the scene and collected evidence. Detectives were notified.

Oct. 25

Fraud: Officers were dispatched to a fraud in progress at Sound Credit Union at 10914 SE Kent-Kangley Road. It was reported a woman inside was likely using a fraudulent ID to attempt to get a cash advance on a line of credit. Upon contact with the woman, officers learned she had presented three forms of ID. Through a thorough investigation and interview of the suspect, officers gained a confession from the woman. The suspect was subsequently booked into the King County jail.

Oct. 27

Safeway robbery: 10:14 a.m., patrol was dispatched to Safeway, 13101 SE Kent-Kangley Road, for a robbery. Loss prevention confronted the suspect, who was leaving the store with a cart full of items, asking him to leave them there or return them and pay for the items. The suspect brandished a firearm from his jacket pocket and refused to follow the commands of loss prevention personnel, then left in a vehicle. Patrol was able to identify the suspect via photos and the case is referred to detectives.
